1In 2003, the Vermont Legislature enhanced the existing options for power of attorney for health care and terminal care: The new “Advanced Directive” allows you, in addition to appointing a healthcare agent, to express wishes for disposition of remains and funeral arrangements. Instead of two separate documents, the new “Advance Directive” is a document that combines, and can be used as both a “living will” and a “durable power of attorney for health care.” In an advance directive you can be very specific about your wishes regarding life-prolonging treatments, such as artificial nutrition and hydration (feeding tubes).
